House under construction - Square Timber Style
Mountain house under construction. Winter 99/00

With Square Timber Style buildings, you have the oppurtunity to build very individual. The structure comes out of the logstyle. All the conections are made of wood.

The traditional Square Timber Style is a very old and durable way of building a house. You can find houses hundreds of years old that are built that way and still in good condition. Key factors are a good roof, regularly maintained, and a solid fundation that keeps the moisture from raising into the wood structure from the ground. Often a big overhang on the roof is used to protect the sides from the elements.

The house is mainly built with square timbers horizontally stacked and connected with wood pegs. This is where the name Square Timber Style comes from. The timbers are usually 5 - 6½ inches thick. For homes, additional insulation on the inside is used to get optimal thermal protection.

Square Timber Style is a traditional and ecological technique that needs little machinery to be built and needs much less connection supplies than regularly built homes. In combination with natural insulation materials like sheep wool or IsoFloc you will have a very comfortable and natrual feeling in you home.

If you as a client would like to help with the construction of the building, there is a lot you can do.

If you like, there are endless possibilities to decorate the building and make it very unique, like wood carvings for example.
